The Advantages of a Sports System & Resurfacing

What are the benefits of installing a new sports surface system vs resurfacing an existing one? It can be difficult to know not only what is the most cost effective but when to do it. Here’s our advice and tips on the signs to look out for that will ultimately help you to make the right decision. You can always talk to our experienced team who will guide you through the whole process from initial quote to the finished product.

Installing a New Sports System

Installing a new sports system can be costly. There’s no point in pretending otherwise. First of all, there’s specific questions that may need answering, both for your needs but also to your installation specialists.

If you already have sports pitches, it could be a case of weighing out the pros and cons. The one thing that should never be compromised or overlooked is health and safety.

The time period can also be a lengthy one so it is worth keeping that in mind. From the first initial quote right through to the installation process. Also, due to the nature of installations it can be in high demand which means calendars get filled quickly.

Installations can also depend entirely on the type of sports surface or pitch. There’s no set lifetime for any one pitch. There are specific things to look out for though:

  • The pitch is past wear and tear and results in injuries
  • The shock absorbent layers have diminished
  • Poor drainage
  • Irregularities in play

However, many of these features could be rectified with resurfacing. A good indicator may be whether the sports surface is past wear and tear. Then you know that an installation is the way forward. We’d still recommend talking to us so we can advise not only on an installation or resurfacing but also on duration and costs depending on your budget.

Resurfacing an Existing Sports System

Resurfacing is not only sometimes more cost effective but could save on time. One of the best sports surfaces to resurface rather than completely replace are tennis courts. Resurfacing a tennis court should typically take place every eight to ten years and can rectify many play and surface issues.

MUGAs are also a sports surface that can benefit from regular maintenance, including resurfacing. Their lifespan is lengthened and this means that they can be used by schools and clubs for a lot longer. The surfaces used are also cheaper but completely durable.

Our resurfacing includes removal and disposal of the old surface. Giving peace of mind knowing that your existing surface is taken care of. The rectification and preparation of the underlying base and then the supply and resurfacing of the new sports surface.

It’s always worth asking rather than assuming that you need a completely new sports surface system. Existing synthetic grass surfaces and multi-sports areas can often be resurfaced without replacing shock-pads or sub base layers.
