Hockey continues to grow in popularity across the UK, with clubs at every level relying on safe, high-performance pitches to support their training and competition. A top-quality surface isn’t just nice to have, it’s essential for the demands of the sport.
At AS Sports, we understand what hockey clubs need from their surfaces. We’ve delivered a wide range of synthetic pitches, tailored to suit different levels of play, site requirements, and long-term goals. In this blog, we’re looking back at some of the hockey projects we’ve completed in recent years, showcasing how our work has helped hockey clubs across the UK enhance their facilities and invest in the future of the sport.
Basingstoke Hockey Club
In 2024, we had the opportunity to work on a very exciting project at Down Grange Sports Complex, installing the UK’s first dry hockey pitch for Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. We worked alongside Polytan and Surfacing Standards Limited to install the Poligras Paris GT Zero Dry Hockey Turf, embracing sustainable hockey and making history at Basingstoke Hockey Club.
This project marked a major milestone for the sport and we were proud to be part of it. Read all about the project in our previous blog.
Nottingham Hockey Centre
We’ve worked with Nottingham Hockey Centre on multiple projects over the years. In 2022, we installed an electric blue water-based pitch for the centre, providing the resident club – Beeston Hockey Club – with a high quality hockey surface. You can find out more about this project in our previous blog.
We kicked off 2025 with something special, as we finished off the installation of the UK’s very first Hockey5s pitch at Nottingham Hockey Centre. The pitch was created in partnership with Nottingham Hockey Centre and Britvic, featuring a striking Pepsi logo and vibrant colours. It was quickly nicknamed “The Pepsi Pitch” and we’re delighted to have played a part in this project, shaping the future of UK Hockey5s. Read all about this exciting project in our blog from earlier in the year.
Barnes Hockey Club
In 2021, we brought an old hockey pitch back to life at Barnes Hockey Club in Chiswick, West London. The club has a rich history and was founded in 1889. We were proud to be able to provide them with a state of the art, sand dressed hockey surface with turf from Lano Sports, and were very happy with the outcome – a total transformation!
Maidstone Hockey Club
In 2022, we resurfaced a hockey pitch for Maidstone Hockey Club using top-quality turf from Lano Sports. We were delighted with the finished result and were pleased to receive positive feedback from the client. Happy client = happy team!
“AS Sports are professional, flexible and reliable. They are more personable than larger outfits and less “corporate”. All work was done to a high standard, completed early with no surprises.” – Roger Daniels, Maidstone Hockey Club
Chelmsford Hockey Club
Back in 2017, we transformed an old hockey pitch at Chelmsford Hockey Club, providing the club with a brilliant new sand-dressed hockey surface and a warm-up area. Six years later, in 2023, the pitch was re-certified by the FIH and we had the pleasure of seeing the surface still looking as good as the day it was installed. Quality lasts and we’re proud to have provided a hockey pitch that truly stands the test of time.
